快艇明星前鋒葛瑞芬（Blake Griffin）將因傷缺席2015NBA全明星賽，NBA總裁蕭華（Adam Silver）通知拓荒者後衛利拉德（Damian Lillard）頂替。

在科比（Kobe Bryant）因肩傷賽季報銷後，蕭華宣佈國王隊中鋒考辛斯（DeMarcus Cousins）取代。這一決定引來利拉德的強烈不滿。因為無緣全明星，利拉德還拒絕以衛冕者的身分參加技巧挑戰賽。
葛瑞芬因右手肘感染確定進行手術治療，無法參加全明星賽，聯盟因而決定由利拉德遷補，讓他如願參加全明星賽。
這是利拉德連續第二年參加全明星賽，本賽季他平均21.6分和6.3次助攻，他在第四節總共得311分，位列聯盟第一，同時他已經投進129個三分球。拓荒者目前34勝17負，領跑西北分區。
接下來，西區明星隊總教練科爾（Steve Kerr）將決定由誰來頂替葛瑞芬的先發位置。
